We are in the throes of a full-blown pandemic, Coronavirus. It has been a strange couple of weeks, to say the least - like something out of a movie. The numbers are rising by the minute. You can almost feel the panic in the still air. The nights are eerily quiet. Most of us are turning to the digital world more than ever as we practice self-isolation and social distancing. It has been both a welcome diversion, and a tool to help us stay connected.
I read an article earlier today in the Harvard Business Review that really left an impression on me titled: “That Discomfort You’re Feeling Is Grief.” It goes on to describe how the world has changed and how we are all grieving collectively - grieving the loss of life, of jobs, of connection, of normalcy. Here is an excerpt that lists the stages of grief:
There’s denial, which we say a lot of early on: ‘This virus won’t affect us.’ There’s anger: ‘You’re making me stay home and taking away my activities.’ There’s bargaining: ‘Okay, if I social distance for two weeks everything will be better, right?’ There’s sadness: ‘I don’t know when this will end.’ And finally there’s acceptance. ‘This is happening; I have to figure out how to proceed.’
These stages aren’t in any particular order for everyone, and in writing this post, I guess I am kind of at the Acceptance stage. I am figuring out how to proceed - working from home, putting together puzzles and playlists, learning poker, playing video games, and blogging.
And now back to fashion. A little while ago, I styled myself for a shoot with the talented @jeannnes and had makeup sorceress @lucia.abuin work her magic on my face. Although these were taken pre-Corona, it was all shot inside Jeanne’s studio. So what better time than now to share this with you when we are dressing in the latest #StayHome ‘fashions’ and glued to our screens.
