On 1960s Mod…

Short for the word “modernist, “mod” is an umbrella term for a subculture that began in 1960s United Kingdom and spread to other countries through fashion, art, music, and pop culture. The word itself referred to men who listened to modernist jazz, most notably correlating with the beatnik culture of the time. It’s really difficult to define it all in just a few sentences, as the trajectory and evolution of “mod” is pretty far-reaching, but fashion-wise, it was sort of the antithesis to the uber feminine “poodle-skirts” style that preceded it…Cue bold colorways, mini-skirts, and short bob haircuts à la Vidal Sassoon (side note – peep my Instagram for my new ‘do!). I urge you to read up on what the trusty Wikipedia has to say because everything about this period is pretty interesting.

I quite like this unintentionally-mod look I whipped up and how Yesi so artfully captured it around the streets of Downtown Miami. Perhaps I was subconsciously inspired by the book I’m reading, “Grace” (the legendary Grace Coddington’s memoir), which has taken me on the coolest fashion journey stemming back decades. I dig it.
